Review

Bebu Chun Jiao Ban Tiao is at No. 1, Lane 16, Gongyuan Street in Beipu, a few minutes' walk from Citian Temple on the old street. The family has sold ban tiao (flat rice noodles) for over twenty years, first as Liu Family Restaurant on the old street. Third-generation daughter Liu Mei-hsi moved into a standalone fair-faced concrete house in a lane to honour her mother Chun Jiao's cooking, and the restaurant joined the MICHELIN Bib Gourmand list in 2025. Vacuum-packed dry noodles are also sold for delivery.

The noodles are steamed from ground indica rice. The signature version is topped with slowly braised minced pork and a spoonful of shallots fried in fresh lard, so the rice and pork aromas come through clearly. MICHELIN singles out the house braised pork, made with black-haired pig cooked in rock sugar, soy sauce and wine until the skin is silky and springy. The rice noodle hand roll is a reason many diners return, light and refreshing. Desserts include Hakka mochi in ginger syrup and sweet rice dumplings, plus Hakka sides such as fern shoots.

Fans praise the tall, bright space, the clean open kitchen and dishes that are refined yet still taste Hakka, with braised pork that is sweet without being greasy and generous noodle portions. Critics found the pickled mustard rice too salty and the minced pork rice too lean, and some feel prices are higher than ordinary old-street noodle shops, leading to a gap with expectations.

Mirror Media reported in August 2025 that the minced pork noodles cost NT$100, the hand roll NT$180, a small braised pork NT$190 and the ginger mochi NT$90; check on site. It opens around 11 a.m., serves only lunch on weekdays and stays open into the late afternoon at weekends, though sources differ on closing times. It closes Mondays and Tuesdays. Dishes are limited each day and signature items often sell out early, so MICHELIN suggests booking. Cards are accepted and there is outdoor parking.

Good for anyone wanting a refined but affordable Hakka meal in Beipu, and for gatherings with family or friends. Two people can share the minced pork noodles, the hand roll and a braised pork, add a vegetable and finish with the ginger mochi, at about NT$200 to NT$300 each.
